"Berlanggar meja" can help boost tourism
IGAN: The unique and distinctive tradition of 'berlanggar meja" or joining of tables practised by the Melanaus of Kampung Igan, Mukah here has the potential, to become a major tourist attraction of the fishing village as well as to Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) area, Jemoreng assemblyman Abu Seman Jahwie said. As such, Abu Seman called on villagers of Kampung Igan to sageguard and preserve the tradition so that they could get optimum benefits from the fledgling tourism industry in SCORE.
"Kampung Igan is well known for the 'berlanggar meja' ceremony organised during Hari Raya Aidilfitri. "It would be better if you can incorporate other interesting and attractive (suitable) features to enhance 'berlanggar meja' ceremony in the future," he said.
